UK PM commits to banning 'no-fault' s21 evictions

Updated: Feb 6, 2023

Despite confusion on Tue (11 Oct) from the UK government about the new British PMs stance on the abolishing of #NoFaultEvictions from the UK rental market announced under her predecessor, during PM Questions on Wed (12th) the answer was made more clear.

No fault evictions, or #section21 of the Housing Act 1988, in the UK enables #privateLandlords to #repossess their #rental #property from assured shorthold tenants (AST) without having to establish fault on the part of the tenant.

The argument from #tenant rights groups in the UK put forward during consultation in 2019 was that tenants were reluctant to approach #landlords regarding things such as repairs, for fear of the landlord exercising this option. And seemingly the British government have taken their side.

For anyone considering moving into the UK rental market as a potential #landlord (i.e. not moving in for short-term rental options such as Airbnb) this should be a major consideration with the UK swinging the pendulum of rights firmly onto the #tenants side. #realEstate #investing #invest #indigo1
